[LG exits] LG’s smartphone era is over

LG, a South Korean brand that once became the dominant mobile phone, has officially announced its withdrawal from the mobile phone market.

Android Authority pointed out that LG’s software updates are slow, most of the new phones are not equipped with a new version of Android, and even security updates are slower than other brands, which discourages many consumers. 

Secondly, although LG has pioneered many new technologies in the industry in the past, many mobile phones have been criticized. For example, the G5 modular battery has been criticized by users for poor battery life and even broken phones, which ultimately failed to attract the market. The subsequent mobile phone G6 has not continued to develop modular design.

In addition, although LG targeted the photography field in the mainstream market when it launched the V10 in 2016, it even introduced "ultra-wide-angle" lenses in the G5 in 2016, leading other rivals. However, LG did not insist on its own advantages and characteristics, and was eventually chased by competitors.

Looking back at LG's 2020 product line, Android Authority stated that LG's flagship phone V60 lacks mainstream specifications such as "high refresh rate" and "long focal length lens", making it difficult to compete with the iPhone and Samsung phones on the market. Although LG's dual-screen rotating mobile phone Wing has a special design, its specifications are relatively bleak compared to the mid-level phones Velvet and OnePlus at the same price.

All in all, LG’s mobile phone design thinking in the past was usually based on innovation, but it was unable to form a market scale or cater to market demand. After all, it was unable to survive in the market smoothly and to achieve substantial results in market sales.
