Spanish legislation extends the warranty period of electronic products requires 3 years of free maintenance
According to the current regulations established by the European Union, manufacturers of electronic products are required to provide consumers with a free 2-year warranty period.
In order to enhance consumer rights, Spain recently amended a regulation requiring manufacturers to extend the warranty period of products to 3 years, including products such as smartphones and tablets.
The report pointed out that the Spanish government passed an amendment earlier, requiring electronic product manufacturers to provide a 3-year warranty. Once the new law comes into effect, mobile phones and tablets of Apple, Samsung, Google, Xiaomi and other brands will need to provide an additional year of product warranty. In addition, the new law requires manufacturers to increase the shelf life of repair parts from 5 years to 10 years.
The local government believes that if manufacturers provide longer maintenance periods, consumers may reduce their desire to buy new machines, thereby promoting environmental protection.
In addition, the new law also makes new arrangements for digital products and services. Some free services that collect user personal information, such as social networks, email clients, and other platforms, will be restricted, but it is not yet clear when the new law will take effect.
